If the Straight Talk Express is really a symbol of the McCain campaign’s honesty, it appears you have to donate to hear the truth.  Even then, you have to get lucky.

I received an e-mail from him today informing me that if I donate, I’ll be entered in a drawing for the wonderful opportunity to ride the “Straight Talk Express.”

On a serious note, we’ve seen presidential candidates use contests that involve donating a few times so far this election cycle.  I wonder if it will become more common as November approaches.  It would also be interesting to look at if these are actually effective.  They certainly complement Obama’s small donation style.  Would contests like this help John McCain increase the number of small donors to help him compete with Obama, or are there too few of these donors for it to be useful to McCain?
